Specialties: Diseases of the retina and vitreous including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, uveitis, macular hole, and retinal detachment. Ocular oncology including ocular melanoma and other cancers of the eye and ocular adnexae.

Dr. Gerwin specializes in vitreoretinal medicine and surgery as well as ophthalmic oncology. He completed his undergraduate degree in engineering at the McCormick School of Engineering of Northwestern University. He then graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Alabama School of Medicine with numerous scholarships and awards.
Dr. Gerwin then trained in ophthalmology at the Callahan Eye Foundation Hospital at the University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB). This was followed by an AUPO accredited fellowhip in vitreoretinal medicine and surgery at UAB. He then moved to San Francisco for additional specialized training in eye cancer at the Tumori Foundation and the University of California in San Fancisco. Dr. Gerwin is one of only a small group of ophthalmologists throughout the country with such specialized training. He is board certified in ophthalmology.
Dr. Gerwin remains academically active having lectured at multiple venues across the country and being involved in several national clinical drug trials within the last five years. He has published and presented over twenty research projects going back over a decade.
