
The National Board of Examiners in Optometry is a non-profit, tax-exempt testing agency for optometry headquartered in Charlotte, NC. It was formed in 1951 by the federation of U.S. state licensing boards in optometry and the association representing the 17 Doctor of Optometry degree programs in the U.S. and Canada. All 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico require passing both Part I (Applied Basic Science) and Part II (Clinical Science) for initial licensure. In addition, 47 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico require passing Part III (Patient Care) for initial licensure.
